The concert opens with Prokofiev's "Lieutenant Kijé Suite" a vibrant and humorous piece that tells the story of a fictitious officer in the Russian army. Next, the audience will be treated to Shostakovich's "Piano Concerto No. 2" featuring the talented Yuri Kyrychenko; a joyful concerto full of spirit and lyrical themes, showcasing the piano's agility against the backdrop of the orchestra. Continuing the evening, Khachaturian's "Spartacus Suite" derived from the ballet, is filled with dramatic and passionate themes that evoke the struggle and triumph of its titular character. The orchestra will deliver powerful brass fanfares and lush string passages, transporting the audience to ancient Rome.
