This concert features a selection of classical masterpieces, including Holst's "Cotswolds Symphony", Schumann's "Konzertstück for Four Horns" and Beethoven's "Symphony No. 7." Each piece showcases the unique qualities of orchestral music and the brilliance of the composers.
Starting with Holst's early Cotswolds Symphony, a picturesque work inspired by the titular region featuring rich lyrical melodies providing a taste of traditional English tunes. Following on is a humorous and yet peculiar concerto by Schumann that he labelled as one of his favourites, a concerto for four horns. To finish, Beethoven's vibrant Symphony No. 7, written during the Napoleonic Wars, against the upheaval of the European order concludes the concert in commemoration of 200 years since his passing.
